Position title:  Nurse Manager II (combined Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and Clinical Research Center)

Organization name and location:  Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, OR

Position description:

This position manages an 8 inpatient, 4 infusion chair, and 6 exam room nursing unit providing 24/7 care for specialty medicine/surgical epilepsy monitoring patients and inpatient, ambulatory, and clinic research participants.  It is located on the main campus of the Oregon Health & Science University, an academic medical center.  The inpatient facilities are utilized for patients with epilepsy for seizure monitoring; research participants undergoing sleep and circadian rhythm studies, experimental therapeutic infusions, and other nursing-intensive procedures; and hospital acute care admissions.  The infusion area is utilized for research participants receiving experimental therapeutic agents who require nursing support for infusions, safety monitoring, and pharmacokinetic sampling.  The outpatient exam rooms are utilized for outpatient research protocol visits.  Clinical admissions follow relevant OHSU regulations covering inpatient services.  Research admissions and visits additionally follow relevant institutional, state and federal regulations covering patient-oriented research procedures.  The research mission is supported by the Oregon Clinical and Translational Research Institute (OCTRI), funded via an NIH Clinical and Translational Science (CTSA) award.  The position reports both to the Director of Acute Care Medicine and the program director of the OCTRI Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC), and supervises approximately 30 RNs, CNAs, HUCs, and Research Assistants.

Type of position (permanent, full-time, part-time, temporary):  Permanent, full-time

Qualifications required:

BSN or higher degree in nursing and Master’s degree in nursing or related field (e.g. MBA with Healthcare Administration concentration, Public Health);

OR Enrolled in nursing or related graduate program within 2 years and completion within 5 years.

Five years of experience as a registered nurse in a related clinical area of practice and two years recent formal or informal management/leadership experience.

Job Summary: 

Provides professional nursing care to patients and families in an acute clinical care environment,  guided by the SMHCS nursing professional practice model and in accordance with the ANA's  Standards of Professional Practice. 

Required Qualifications:  

Require graduate of an accredited school of nursing or a diploma program. For new hires after  2012, Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing (BSN) is required within specified timeframe as  outlined in the New Hire BSN Agreement policy (126.045). 

- Require basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

- Prefer certification in nursing specialty area.
